Self Studying AP Psychology

So I’m currently in 10th grade and taking 1 AP (US history) and all honors. I have plenty of free time and hold good grades. But, I want to self-study an AP so I fill up my free time with something salutary, instead of binge-watching netflix. I’m very interested in psychology, and my school offers it. But, it runs during 3rd period, which is also the only period band runs. I don’t plan on quitting band, so I will never be able to take AP psychology in school.

So my question is: Is it worth it to self study it? My friend takes the class and he would be willing to give me any notes I might need and I could borrow a text book from the library. But will it affect my chances of getting into college (either positively of negatively)? I heard it’s relatively easy too, but I’m more concerned on how it will look on my application.

If you don’t do well on practice tests then don’t take the AP exam at the end of year. This will prevent negative effect on your college app.

But I have to sign up for the test in March, so if I do bad on the practice tests and not take it, wouldn’t I just be wasting $85?

You can try an online course! They’re a bit pricy but if you’re interested, it might be a good idea. Talk to your school and see if they might be able to pay for it.

I highly encourage you to self-study!
I would say it is one of the most easiest APs mainly because it requires A LOT of memorization and common sense. Making flashcards or using Quizlet sets will be the best ways to study. I am currently taking the class and it is a really fun and interesting class. It would be a much different experience studying. I would say to always try to implement a real-world or personal example to a term or a concept. There are so many resources now like Crash Course and videos.

I hope this all helps!
