I am currently self studying AP Calculus AB, and I was wondering how self studied AP's are reported to the colleges. Do they come on the transcript, or do the guidance counselors mention them. I was also wondering if colleges know what year you take a particular AP.

Thanks

Well it depends on how your school handles it. My school, for example lets you self study for a grade as long as you have an advisor (I'm self studying AP Psych) and it will show up on my transcript as a graded class. I could also set it to show up with no grade and it will just be on my transcript as a pass/fail.
If your school doesn't do that, make sure your GC and even the teachers you're having write recs for you know that you're doing it and they should mention it. You could even ask your GC specifically to do so.
The common app also has you self-report your classes, so you could list it there and just note that it is a self taught class.

Yes, colleges know what year it was if it's on your transcript, and the common app also has you report what year you took the exam. The official scores that your school will want after you enroll will also say the year.
