Self Studying APs freshmen year

My younger friend wants to self study US Gov, stats, and both economics his freshmen year. What should I tell him about difficulty and the value of doing this?

If they’re taught in his school, even if not to freshman, he is better off taking the class.

He is not determined to do this, but he was wondering if he should, to clarify.

It wouldn’t make much sense to do it since AP scores have little to no effect in college admissions. The only reason to self-study would be to earn credit, and credit policies differ for all universities. As a freshman, he probably doesn’t know which college/university he is going to, and the one he goes to in the future may not even accept AP credit for these subjects or AP credit at all.

If he has no other responsibilities and can actually put in the required effort into self-studying he should choose 3 tests as a freshman at the most in my opinion to provide for ample attention to each test. That is if he is aiming for 4’s or 5’s…

Is it hard to do? @InstantEco

The subjects won’t be difficult, what will be difficult is not being lazy and actually putting in the time to study for each ap test. If you know you procrastinate, it won’t be a smart idea to self study. If you have the drive it won’t be hard to do @SouthBear

I would recommend a Barron’s review book for ap us government.
Barron’s for ap statistics
and 5 steps to a 5 + princeton reiew for macro and micro ( Choose one, it ill be easier to get a 4-5 this way considering you’re a Freshman and you have more years to self study the other one)
watch ACDC econ videos on youtube

@InstantEco Thanks for all the info, it’s actually for my friend. Would you have a math recommendation to have been completed for stats?

Algebra 2 with at least a B average

@SouthBear ^^^^

Why would he do this? An easy one seems reasonable, but three?

What if he is going in To algebra 2? @InstantEco He goes to a school with no AP.

I would not recommend that someone with no algebra 2 experience self study Ap stats, he should wait until sophomore year to self study it.

@SouthBear ^^
