Self-Studying APs: Improving Your App

Well…i enjoy history. Especially European, World is so-so…however i do have the self discipline to study and ill start little bit after the beginning of the school year…

And it’s Environmental Chemistry…it does exist.

But there is no AP Environmental Chem exam…

LOL at this freshman…[AP Courses - Advanced Placement Course Descriptions](http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/ap/subjects.html)
sry that was just really funny

Maybe he means Environmental Science?

Aww crap im sorry for some reason i keep calling Environmental science Env Chem…it’s cause im in sci oly and one of my events is environmental chem, which i really like…sorry again.

It’s fine man. When I was a freshman, I didn’t even know that Env. Science was an AP. ;)

Also, I do not encourage taking Euro, World, and HG. I would say drop HG. The other two alone are already a huge load.

what books do you guys recommend for the us history and us government and politics?

If you are taking the APs in the next 2 weeks I would recommend the Crash Course books they are the fastest and best review. I used Amsco (700pgs) and Crash Course (230pgs) last year and got a 5 in APUSH.

I did not take US Government but I have friends that are using the Crash Course book and say it is very helpful. It is new this year. I think there is a CC thread about it too.

The best way to comprehensively review for the three histories was to quiz myself off historyteacher.net and use Wikipedia and my books to check up on questions that got past me.

Taking all three in two weeks, wish me luck!

I’m considering self studying for psych next year. Has any one done that, and was it pretty easy?

I found this site with various AP chem labs…hope you guys like it:

[AP Chemistry Labs](AP Chemistry Labs)

Also, i was wondering, where on your application do you notify colleges that you self studied APs…do you just send in your scores to them? Another thing, is National AP scholar a significant factor in admissions?

Finally…are there numerous AP tests out there for me to practice on?

Ok, this is really the last one - is psychology worth self studying? Im planning on “self studying” Chem (but i will be taking an advanced chem course at local community college), Environmental Science, and World as well…KEEP IN MIND THIS IS FOR NEXT YEAR, not the AP tests that will be administered THIS SPRING, but the Spring of 2011.

I understand this is a huge load but i am prepared and i’ve already to started to study for AP World and ive gotten in touch with the AP world teacher to kinda guide me through the process…i’ve also started to study for Env Sci, so i can say that i have a lot of time…about a year.

I’ve heard psychology is a pretty easy self study, but i’m also interested in the subject because my mother is in the profession…what do you guys think?

Would it be doable to self-study Bio with no prior knowledge?
CauseI want to next year, and next year is when I take regular Bio…

I don’t know about you guys… but Art History was one of the hardest AP tests i have taken and i only got a 4 on it after taking the class… but then again that might just be me being a math and science person.

The necessity of memorizing over 500 commonly used slides (probably from something like a pool of 3000) is pretty intense, and the free responses are often brutal. (ie. when i took it, it had a picture of the Spiral Jetty, and asked for the artists name, i answered Robert Smith, but the answer was Robert Smithson, so i totally screwed myself on that short answer)

The curve doesn’t seem to be kind either, i think it was 8% 5s for my year? much lower than the other tests where 5s usually range from 10-20%

Hi guys, does anyone have experience with the microeconomics exam? I took a semester long macro course this year and am expecting a 5. I know they are very different courses, but I’m definitely interested in Economics as a whole and am considering self-studying for it.

Thank you oasis. Great post!

Does anyone have any prior experience of self studying AP French Lang? I know it is a really hard exam, like any other Foreign Language. What do you guys think?

Just a warning: Don’t take self-studies lightly. I’m about to get butt r a p e d by Psych in 10 days.

Yeah, I’d also like to self study AP French over two years, with basically no experience (besides 1st and 2nd grade french… lol).

sd6: Psych is a very tough subject, and I feel lucky that my school offers the course. My suggestion is that you make sure you know your basic schools of thought involved in Psychology (humanist, behavioral, etc…). With this knowledge, you will be able to pick up a bunch of points on MC, even if you don’t really know the subject matter. Also, work on the core disorders and important psychologists. It was very brave of you to self-teach psych, and I hope things go well for you.

sd6: Yeah, CS is going to kill me. I started Friday and will go into the exam without having written a single line of Java.
