^ A lot of counselors don’t understand, and there’s not that much you can do if they flat out refuse to register you, but that doesn’t happen much anyway, or shouldn’t happen.

You should tell him that you’re willing to pay the exam fee, that you will be responsible for the material covered for the exam, and tell him all that he needs to do is to order an additional exam for you. The complicating factor is that he would need to find a proctor for you, but if your HS offers everything then you probably can just take it with the people who are taking it at the same time. If he’s reasonable, then he’ll let you do this.

If not, look into nearby high schools that offer AP exams. Someone will be reasonable enough to do this for you.

Hey, i was just wondering that since my school doesnt offer AP Art History and im considering taking it, where would i take it. Will i be the only one in the room taking it or do i have to travel to a different school?

When I took AP Psych, I was the only one taking it, and I was just alone in a room. Unless you are near a school that offers the test to more people, you’ll probably get your own room too.

what would be the best way to self study AP Psychology and AP Environmental Science?
Is there a textbook that most schools use for it? Is there a best Barron’s, REA, ect. kind of book? Is there a good website for it?

I’ve posted this before, but this thread brings more attention and more people analyzing situations… So I’m going to be a junior for the 2010-2011 school year. My school only offers 10 APs

When I was a freshman I was not allowed to take any APs, as there is a set schedule besides language and math. The same goes for sophomore year, except I did ap calculus ab.
So my junior year ap classes are:
AP Eng Composition and Lang
AP Calculus BC (uccp.org since my school doesn’t offer it)
AP Biology
I’m taking an intro to psychology course at my school since it doesn’t offer ap psych. Is it sufficient enough for me to get a 5 on the exam if I get barron’s ap psychology book with the cd and just read the entire thing and do a lot of practice tests a couple months before the exam?

^ Yes definitely. Pysch is one of the easiest AP exams. I would recommend getting a couple prep books though just to be on the safe side. For the AP exams I self-studied I used 2 books each and it worked out well

I’m going to be self studying Ap Human, Ap Pysch and Ap Enviro.

I have a few questions…

What review book should I use for Ap Envrio, and would I need a textbook?

If so, which textbook?

Would it be ok to start Pysch 2-3 months before the test, and enviro and geo over the summer?

For envi sci, I used princeton and felt like the test was a breeze. extremely confident I got a four or a five. You can start envi-sci a month before and still scrounge at least a 3. I feel as if a month was almost too much time. I knew everything inside and out, and still had a week to spare. Of course you could be different, but most ccer’s are smart.(usually smarter than me)
Honestly I think you’re taking this way too seriously. Start psych and geo in janurary, and do envi sci a month before. They’re all extremely easy if you study.

AP Psych I heard definitely Barron’s. For macro/micro i’ve actually heard PR but i dont know. for calc i’ve also heard PR from everyoen. Physics i’m not sure. Human geo a self study i’d say get more than one book…i know you dont want to but i didnt know a bunch of the stuff on the exam using onl Barron’s (which everyone here basically said you only need barrons lol) and yeha…i got a good score but was super lucky. I’m weary about only using one book for self-studies from now on…but oh well. comp science i also have no idea. otherwise, what you have looks pretty good i’d say.

Hey guys, I have a question. Okay I would like to self study Psychology. My school does not have an AP Psych course. So will my school administer it to only one kid? Are all high schools universal testing centers, in the sense that you can take whatever AP you want regardless if the school offers it or not? I’ll have 3 AP classes that I’ll be taking formally (Bio, Spanish Lang, World History). I’m really interested in self studying.

dylandlima, it depends on the school. I know my school had 2 kids who self-studied AP comp gov (we dont have the class) adn our school administered it. However, some schools refuse to do this if they dont offer the class. In this case, you would have to find a different school that offered the test, and work out takign it with them.

@chess94 I’m about to email the assistant principal at my school (it’s medium size has most AP’s about 1200 kids). Actually I find it remarkable that your school administered an exam to 2 kids. lol

^lol yeah kinda strange. I already talked to them about it (end of last year) and i’m gonna be self-studying ap comp gov and they said it’d be ok, and i’m pretty sure i’m the only one doing it lol so…oh well. gonna be kind of weird though, being in a testing room in a church w/only me and the procters… i’ll manage.

“Actually I find it remarkable that your school administered an exam to 2 kids. lol”

I selfed both APES and APHG and my school proctored both- I was the only one taking each exam. Although I don’t like much about my school, I was definitely happy they were willing to proctor for me.

^Puggly that is cool. So you were one kid sitting in a class with one proctor? Your school must be really small. Even my horrible school has APHG. What did you end up making on APES?
