Hi. I will be applying to college next year. I currently take only two APs in school (AP Calculus AB & AP Biology). I was planning on self-studying for APES and AP Psych, but I am losing motivation for psych.
Also, I take a lot of concurrent/dual enrollment classes. I’ve already taken general psych and the credits transfer to the college system I intend to attend, so would it even be worth it to take the AP Psych test?
Instead, could I self-study APES and AP Human Geography? What other APs could I self-study? I want to send in four (hopefully good) APs scores to colleges.
And I guess this leads into a general question: if you take a dual-enrollment course, is it worth it to take a corresponding AP exam if it already gives you college credit? It costs over $90 per exam…
No, if you have taken DE Psych and it will transfer, no need to take AP Psych.
Only take AP tests for the credits…they are not used in admissions really.
Spend more time making sure you have Bio, Chem, Physics and an AP version of one of these, and getting up to Calc in Math (which you have). You will get the DE credits to be able to use at college…I would only bother self Studying APs if you really need the credits to save money.
Do well in the classes you are taking, join clubs, show leadership for now.
AP credits aren’t used in admissions? I’m taking only two AP classes so I’m a bit worried about what colleges will think, which is why I want to self study two.
If they’re not considered, might as well focus more on my DE classes that serve the same purpose…?
@pathtocollege Yeah, it is a much better idea to focus more on your DE classes. While AP tests can give them an idea of your skills, you don’t need extra if you’re already in a lot of DE classes. What you’re doing right now is enough.
Have a good day and happy Martin Luther King, Jr. day!
