according to what ive heard APUSH is the hardest AP exam, but at my school its not offered. can you tell me what you thought of it (ill be studying next year of course)?

No, it’s one of the easiest.

I used a basic high school textbook, Amsco, REA and Annenburg Media videos (“Biography of America” and “America’s History in the Making”). These are available online for free and are excellent.

You must practice the DBQs and essay writing. Check out the samples on AP Central at college board. Good luck.

I wouldn’t recommend self studying this one. Almost anything would be easier than this.

Well, if you want anything at all to self study, there are easier options. Namely, stats, psychology and environmental science. My APUSH teacher hardly teaches at all so to me the class is almost like an independent study. I have to read everything on my own. It is not terribly hard, but it is time consuming and very boring at times. If you are passionate about history, go for it. Otherwise pick something easier to study on your own.
AP Exam is not hard, one of the easiest, you have been misinformed.

I still think you can do it. There are no labs, equations or problem solving.

If you have taken any American History in elementary and middle school, which most of us do (over and over again), you can do this. It’s just memorisation and the ability to write essays. If you had a decent middle school history curriculum you probably remember a lot of the basic subject areas:

Pre-Columbian Cultures

European Exploration/colonial period

American Revolution

US Constitution (will help on the Govt. exam too)

Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Marshall Court

Jacksonian era

Westward expansion

North/South - Civil War

Reconstruction
etc…upto the modern day. I think you get the idea.

If you don’t remember anything of value from History, maybe it’s not a good choice for you. But if some of this stuff rings a bell and you enjoy history and are willing to study, then you can do it.

The bonus is that AP Govt. will be easier too. “Gibbons v. Ogden (1824), sure, I know that.”

Self-studying for this is not impossible if you received a middle school american history survey class like most places have. The information in APUSH should not be completely new for anyone, just more in-depth. Essay rubric is less structured than in world, so that aspect is easier at least. DBQ’s are harder since a lot more outside info is required.
