Hey guys! So I'm thinking about self-studying AP US History, since I don't have that many APs and my teacher last year only recommended like 3 people for it. How difficult do you think it would be to self-study for the test on my own and take the test? I already have the AMSCO book from when my sister took the class, but I'm wondering if missing out on all the DBQ practice and doing AP prep during class would make it extremely difficult. Thanks for any feedback :)

Read The American Pageant
Read AMSCO
Do some past essays off AP Central

and you’re good

Hey there, I self-studied for the AP test and got a 5. It all depends on how disciplined you are.

The multiple choice doesn’t have much depth, but some ones are obscure. I actually never did a single DBQ, but i looked over all of the ones on AP central (“sample response”) to figure out the “pattern.” So, going into the exam, i had the exam set up of my essays in mind (the exact structure of the thesis, how to transition etc). It was very formulated. But the key’s to be able to incorporate every sentence into a fluid argument. The tricks to it are hard to explain, but i think you’ll get the idea once you look at some from past students. If you can embellish easily, that’s a huge plus.

my advice:
get amsco and start reading! Don’t write the essays, but think of a thesis and supporting points.
there are some wonderful sites… http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1062296311-post17.html
you don’t need a text book, but you DO need mr. fosset’s notes from one of the links.
Do every practice mc question you can find.
You’ll need this. http://morganparkcps.enschool.org/ourpages/auto/2009/2/1/52194040/ap1.pdf

I liked REA for the AP and Kaplan for the SAT II.
Got a 5, still waiting on the II score.
Get the American Pageant too.
Good luck!

Hm, well, APUSH overall is quite easy, it’s just a LOT of memorization, so don’t think you can get away with cramming everything a day before the exam.
Definitely get the AMSCO book and do A LOT of multiple choice practice, good luck! (:

ok thanks for all the help guys!!! :]
