Is this a realistic goal for Junior year considering I need to get a 5 on it? What prep books and textbook would you guys recommend? For reference, I'm in Advanced Algebra/Trig Hnrs. this year, and am thinking about get a head-start on Pre-Calc during the summer and self-studying Calc throughout Junior year.

Will you be taking Calculus AB at your school, or will you be completely self-studying all of Calculus?

For a textbook, I would recommend Calculus of a Single Variable by Larson, Hostetler, and Edwards. My teacher sometimes tells our class about how hard he fought to get the district to implement this particular book into the curriculum for the examples, and I agree with him. The examples in the sections are very helpful.

As for prep books, I personally don’t use one (my teacher does a 6-week-long AP Review session, so I don’t need any self-prep), but I heard that PR and Peterson’s are both good prep books.

^I will be self-studying it. Thanks for the advice!

Hmm… this book it out of print but it’s a legend in my opinion. Amazing.

Calculus by Thomas/Finney 9e. It’s cheap since you can buy it used on Amazon. It also has multivariable in the back so you can continue your studies if you are still in high school.

Also, I suggest Princeton Review as a prepbook. It DOES NOT substitute for a real textbook but it’s a great review book during the last month. Short, concise, and covers everything. I’m self-studying BC (started yesterday) from AB using Princeton R alone. Very easy once you have AB concepts down.

Thanks, I’ll check that one out too.

This is the book I mentioned on Amazon. It isn’t the exact same one, but I looked at the online preview and I think it’s exactly the same (or at least VERY similar): [Amazon.com: Calculus of a Single Variable (9780547209982): Ron Larson, Bruce H. Edwards: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Calculus-Single-Variable-Ron-Larson/dp/0547209983/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1269386195&sr=8-1)

Yeah, I’m using that book to self-study calc bc right now. It’s worked out well so far. Averaging like 93% on the free response sections.

^Nice, hopefully I do as well next year.

I second 314159265’s textbook recommendation. The textbook has good problems to do and provides excellent examples for you to understand. For a study guide, PR is the way to go.
