Hi CC,
I have decided to take a precalculus exam over the summer (end of july) to skip the class (this is a final decision, I can’t change my mind). I have a few precalculus textbooks but I also need to practice Algebra 2 (my current math class) to do well on tests. Alg 2 is my top priority, and I usually spend time doing practice problems on what we’re learning and go ahead so I can understand what she is teaching us in a different way (sometimes she explains things in a way that sounds confusing. Studying ahead helps me understand.). I’m trying to do both of these things-- study for the exam and do well in my current math class-- and I dont quite know how. Is there any way I can prepare a schedule for these two, and study so that I can actually remember what I learned in Precalculus the next weekend? I know Precal. contains Alg 2, but I dont know whether to rely on that to get me ahead in learning it. I think I should learn different topics from Precal separately.
Anyway, any advice would me much appreciated. Thanks!
Since no one has replied, I’ll give this a shot, but I preface this by saying that my school uses an integrated math system, so I’m unsure of what exactly is included in algebra 2.
My suggestion would be to try to set some days (2 or 3 maybe?) during the week to do precalculus so that you can keep to a schedule. Take extensive notes and use Khan Academy or similar resources as much as needed, because precalculus is difficult. If there is a topic you don’t understand because of algebra 2 knowledge, then the next day ask your teacher or maybe a precalc teacher if you don’t like your own teacher’s method. Consider getting a tutor though. Seriously.
Thank you for responding, and for your advice! Setting aside 2-3 days during the week sounds good. Thanks!
Take a weekend to sit down and map out what you need to learn in precalc and what to review. Depending on how long you have to study, allocate the workload, focusing on the new content (for example: 1 new ch in 1 week, 2 old in 1 week). Leave at least a month before the test to review the concepts.
If you need to prioritize algebra 2, then do 2-3 days and 1-2 hr sessions of study during school and then ramp it up on breaks and weekends.
The internet is full of info, so utilize it to its fullest potenti with YouTube, math reviews, etc
Thanks so much @pandaholic2
