Self-studying for AP Latin from scratch

Hey,

Recently, I’ve taken an ardent interest in Latin. I’m going to be a high school freshman in a week, however, and my school doesn’t offer Latin as a language. The other high school on the other side of town offers Latin, but my parents aren’t willing to drive that far everyday.

I checked on the Latin teacher at the other high school’s website, and he uses Wheelock’s Latin (which I have) supplemented by some other readings for Latin I and Latin II, so I think I’m good to go for those two levels. For Latin III, what he has posted is pretty vague (Satyricon of Petronius, Fables of Phaedrus, Comedies of Plautus), and for Latin IV, it says it follows the College Board syllabus for the AP Virgil test.

What I’m wondering is: what other textbooks should I look into to help me learn the information up to AP Latin (and beyond)?

If anyone could link me to a Latin teacher’s site with the materials and worksheets that they use, that’d be fantastic. Textbook recommendations, and basically anything else would also help me out a ton.

Thank you so much!

(I just realized that I probably should’ve posted this under World Languages in the AP section. Oops)

Hi! I’m super excited to be taking AP Latin this year. The College Board requires certain texts for an accredited AP Latin program. They are:

Vergil’s Aeneid: Selected Readings from Books 1, 2, 4, and 6, by Barbara Weiden Boyd. Caesar: Selections from his Commentarii De Bello Gallico, by Hans-Friedrich Mueller. The Aeneid, by Vergil, translated by David West.

My class is also using Caesar and Vergil AP Vocabulary Cards, by Dennis De Young and David R. Pellegrino. Excelability in Advanced Latin: A Workbook for Students, by Gaylan DuBose and Marianthe Colakis.

I’ve used Wheelocks for Latin II and it is a great textbook. I prefer Henle, however, which I used for Latin I and III. I am a homeschooled student taking AP Latin online. This might be a great option for you; if you’re interested I’d be happy to give you the link to my online academy (where you can check out the resources for every Latin level).

Bonam Fortunam!
