Self-studying for AP(s)?

Hi everyone!

I'm a sophomore taking four APs this year. Next year I'm starting the IB diploma program, so my school schedule will be pretty filled up (both next year and senior year). The courses I'm taking this year are: Honors Algebra 2/Trig, Spanish 3, AP Chem, AP Lang, AP Psych, AP World, and Orchestra.

Next year I'll be taking:
-Honors Precalc
-IB Spanish 4
-AP/IB Bio
-IB English 11
-IB Music Theory
-APUSH
-Orchestra
-TOK 1

Anyway, I wanted to take AP Stats next year because I'm really interested in statistics and biometry. I also wanted to take AP Gov (US and Comparative) because I think politics is vastly interesting, too.

I've decided that I'm going to self-study for one (or two, in the case of AP Gov) of these exams, but I'm not really sure which one. The AP Stats teacher is my AP Chem teacher this year, and I'm sure he'd be happy to give me the notes/book from AP Stats and recommend ways of self-studying. The AP Gov teacher (my school offers both US and Comparative as one class - a full year elective) will be my TOK teacher next year, so I imagine we'll get to know each other pretty well. I've also heard that APUSH and AP Gov go well together, so that would be a plus.

I have a real interest in both statistics and politics (maybe not enough of an interest to sacrifice IB, but enough of an interest to undertake studying for them...), but I think it would be easier to study for the AP Gov exams.

What are your opinions or thoughts? Have you self-studied for/taken one of these exams? If you have, which review books do you think are the best?

Thank you so much for your time! :)

I should also throw in the fact that I’m not completely opposed to self-studying for AP Stats and the AP Gov exams.

No one can help me out? :(

Well, I’m taking AP Lit and APUSH in a matter of days…

I self-studied for both, using the Princeton Review and Barron’s books (latter highly recommended).

Yeah, I bought Barron’s for psych and it seems to be great. How do you structure your self-studying? I could probably get all the class materials for whichever I decide (if not both), so I could just go along with the syllabi using review books.

Well, I’m homeschooled, so it’s probably a bit different, and I’ve been sort of cramming since the past month for both tests.

Loads of studying cover to cover the review books, taking practice tests, and more general stuff.

I self-studied Psych as a sophomore and got a 5 on the exam. The only book I really used was Barron’s prep book; I read it and made flashcards. I studied those flashcards a lot towards the end of April. I also made my own review packet and it helped a lot; I would bring it to school every day and just read parts of it whenever I had free time in class. There are also many cram packets others have made that you can utilize.

I feel like with AP Gov, it’s probably pretty easy to self-study because it’s going to be mainly retention of information
