Self-studying for AP

There likely exist threads with this same topic, but oh well.

--How do you study for AP test for which you never took the class? I've already done some research and got some valuable resources (Self-Studying 101: What?s the big deal? The Comprehensive Guide v.1.0 | Course-Notes.Org), but I want to know more.

--Who do you need to notify of your self-studying so that you can take the test?

--Is self-studying for Psych necessary if I plan to take it along with AP Lit and AP Bio next year? Would it benefit me more to just take the class? If so, is there a better test to study for, such as US Govt.?
(FYI, the college I plan to attend awards different amounts of credit based on whether or not you took the class. I don't know if all colleges do it this way, but this one does)

You basically just get a textbook and maybe watch online lectures if you like those…
Prep books are useful a month or so before the test.

What do you mean? If you’re taking the class it’s not considered self-studying.

And taking the class is better than self-studying. There’s no reason to self-study a subject for which you could take the class.

@Halcyonheather: Ah, there I go again. I’m never clear :<
Thank you for seeing through my ambiguity.
