As I am planning my schedule for next year, I plan to self study 3 APs. I have been searching through the forums, but I can't find the topic I am looking for specifically. While I have found a lot of useful information about self-studying, I have not found any threads on how exactly to study. Do I use one of the recommended textbooks and some review books? Online courses or what?

S looked over the AP books at the library and bookstore on the AP exams he self studied for. He determined after reviewing them that he knew the subject matter well and after looking the books over about 4 hours apiece, he said he was done and took the test when it was scheduled and did fine. YMMV.

For about half the tests, you can read the review book(s) and be fine. Subjects like the easier “sciences” and histories fall under this category. For subjects where there’s a lot more to learn (I.e. where you’d typically need a teacher), you should get a proper textbook. The consolidated textbook list will tell you what the community recommends.

What subjects are you self-studying? Some subjects require a lot less work than others.

I am studying the “easier” subjects: Psychology, Human Geography, and Economics, but that is to prepare me for the year after when I plan on taking AP French, AP Physics B and C, and AP Euro,
