self-studying greek

Has anyone done this? is kypros.org a good site for it, are there any books or anything to help learn greek (ancient and modern)?

I don't know about kypros.org, but for ancient Greek, the best book is Hansen & Quinn's Greek: An Intensive Course. Athenaze is a pretty common textbook used in high schools - the grammar goes a lot more slowly, which may be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on what you're looking for.

I'm doing ancient and modern right now, and be warned, it can get confusing. The pronunciation is different, the meanings of some words have changed, and the verb conjugations, etc. are similar enough to be recognizable, but difficult enough to be easily confused when you switch between the two forms. You may find it easier to start with one and wait until you have at least a few months' background before you start the other.
