Self studying spanish lang?

Has anyone self-studied for the Spanish language test with relative success?
I'd like to learn the language, but I don't want to deal with the teacher at my school who exclusively teaches it. So, if anyone has done this before, I'd appreciate some guidance (or just tell me it's not likely I'll be able to handle it on my own). Thanks

Do you speak the language to any degree? If you don’t you could probably get a 3 studying pretty intensely. Vocabulary would be easy but verbs would be pretty hard. But the problem is most stop universities don’t take a 3 for a foreign lang, especially not Spanish where a lot of Spanish speakers get 5’s.

You might want to try another language if you’re starting out from scratch but not many are easier than Spanish. But then again, no language will ever be easy. :P

Best of luck :)

I am a native English speaker and took four years of Spanish. Last year, I started studying French and didn’t have a Spanish class. I wanted to take the AP exam though. I prepared mostly during the second semester for the exam and felt alright about it. The hardest parts for me were the listening and reading. There is very little mercy given in those two sections, haha. With the writing and speaking, it is up to you to be effective and creative, and that actually makes it a little easier.

If you have near to no knowledge of Spanish, it would be difficult. If you are familiar with another Romance language, vocabulary (and grammar, to an extent) could be easy to pick up. Although sometimes confusing (and embarassing!), studying French at the same time as Spanish helped me out. If you are serious and do some pretty intense studying, you could do well.

Buena suerte en lo que eliges!

aribar94, did you have a teacher or were you taking French I? I’m considering doing something similar, I got a 5 on the AP Spanish exam and figure now its just a matter of learning French vocab and grammar.

Yes, it’s possible. I took only 3 years of Spanish and I passed the exam (self-studied one year in two months.) I loved my teacher, but the success of my class was not great. Of the 8 kids who took it, only 3 passed.
