Semester at Sea

One thing that not many high school students know is that UVA runs Semester at Sea. It's a pretty cool academic program where you travel around the world taking classes on a cruise ship. (You may have seen it several years ago on MTV's Road Rules. At times, world renowned scholars travel aboard the ship, and this Spring semester, it will be Nobel Peace Laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa.

I like to point out that UVA just took the Semester-at-Sea program over and revamped the curriculum. It's not the same program as the one seen on MTV, but it is the same boat!

Man, all these cool new things at UVA make me want to be a student again. Oh well. :)

I really want to do S.A.S during my junior year. Is there any benefit to being a UVA student when you apply for the program? Also, is it very competitive to be accepted to S.A.S?

Anyone out there that can answer my question? :-)

I won't be able to give you any definitive answer to your question. You should contact the Semester At Sea office in Charlottesville. Their number is (800)-854-0195.

Also, here's an article that might interest you. It's about a Drake student who recently participated in Semester At Sea.

This is pretty exciting. Any other good stuff we might not have heard about in our tours/information sessions?
