i applied for summer 08 at Upark. got in. what are the changes i can change to fall? is that even possible?

I think you have to start summer, but getting into fall and wanting to change to summer is possible.

can't be vise versa?

ASAP contact the Undergraduate Admissions Office. Time is not on your side. Do it Monday am.

In our case my daughter was unable to attend LEAP Summer 2008 (Business School). Two options were: reevaluate application for Fall admission, or enter Division of Undergraduate studies. No brainer is the latter. Done deal. Easy transition to Fall admissions.

Colleges, like the Smeal Business school, have only so many slots for entering Freshman. The goal is to get on the University Park campus. Transition to most majors can be done sophomore year. My advice to future students applying would be to apply without declaring a major.

Let me know how it goes.

But then you have to deal with the requirements for getting accepted into the college of your choice:
http://www.psu.edu/dus/updates/numbr448.htm
If you really can't start in the summer that is a good reason to change. But if you were already accepted into the college of your choice (especially business or engineering) for summer, it would not be a great idea to switch to DUS just to start in the fall.
Bre127, what college were you accepted into?

rlm - i was accepted the college of earth and mineral sciences (majoring in meteorology) at the main campus

starone- thank you, i will attempt to contact the admissions office mon. morning

Thanks rim for that website regarding DUS and administrative enrollment at Penn State.

Its my understanding, after going to the Penn State open house, and touring the Business School, that those who get into the School, still must maintain grades and requirements in core curriculum. Core courses can be taken in either DUS or Smeal. The undergraduate admission officer told me that 30% of the students on campus change majors after the first year.

What bothers me about the Penn State process is the definitive way to get on Main Campus. After the fact, one learns that more slots are available under DUS, then business.

Call me old school, but the required summer program to get into main campus for business appears to be an innovative approach to easy kids into college, at an added expense to the student and revenue for the University. That being an extra 10K for out of state, and the fact that kids graduate from high school, and one week later they head right off to school. Then they have one week between summer and fall semesters. Seems like a stretch. What about work and other commitments?

I would like to see a hard core summer program between sophomore and junior year for business students.

Most Big Ten Schools require a GPA of 3.0 to get into the business school. Application to the University for most students is always DUS, and application to individual schools is done sophomore year. If it means getting on the main campus, do it old school.

Star

do many freshman who dont get in to up for fall apply for the spring 2009??
