semester of c's

Lets say I have 1 bad semester due to extenuating/home circumstances and had 4 c's and 1 pass in my main academic subjects. If my guidance counselor explains it and I explain it in my apps, will I still have a chance at getting into top colleges (ex. columbia, duke). Assume that the rest of my transcript is good, good sat's, essays etc.

i have some problems too like maybe 1 C 2 B’s. I am also applying to very competitive colleges, but I don’t think letter would help out very much, since at the end it’s our own responsibility to take care of what’s going on in our life. It’s not that I have been playing games or partying a lot, but unfortunately I’ve been going through very serious personal issues. Well as long as it is appropriate reason, it won’t hurt to send it , would it? haha

i don’t think i even answered your question, sorry.

well according to your response in this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/451619-i-dare-you-chance-me.html

have fun at your local community college :)

i don’t think a letter will help much, unless it’s something along the lines of “father, mother, sister, brother, uncle, aunt, and grandpa all died in a place crash” because if you’re applying to schools of that caliber, you probably wouldn’t have dropped that much

Citybirds: Truephesy!

In all honesty colleges like the upward trend and it shouldnt matter that much however your gpa may have been effected and the overall gpa is the only thing holding you back.

And as for ur post on that thread.. 3.4 surely doesnt mean community college lol
