Semester off, application blemish?

I am stressing out. Long story short: went to first college semester out of state, absolutely hated the school, decided not to stay. Now, after coming home, the college I was going to transfer too isn’t admitting me I suppose. I was planning on transferring to Tulane, Case Western Reserve, Kenyon, Oberlin, Carleton, St Olaf, Vanderbilt in the fall. Now I feel that since I won’t be going anywhere for this spring, my chances are completely down the drain.

1 Good letter of recommendation, can maybe get 1 more but would he from a Highschool teacher. Rather good essay. How big of a blemish is this on my application? Even if I were to take summer classes maybe? I don’t think anyone will want a student that hasn’t been going to school for a semester. Any ideas on my chances of these schools? Thanks

Time off is not a blemish on your application.

Make your list, and verify with each college or university about your application status. Some might want you to apply as a freshman rather than a transfer, Get those apps out, then pick up a job or a volunteer gig, and keep yourself busy until it is time to go off to college wherever it is you are admitted this fall.

What was wrong with UNLV?

Can you find something to do during the term? I think it would only be a blemish if you made no effort to do something with your time. Volunteering, working, sports, etc all seem like good things to fill your time with.
