If you have already applied to schools to transfer for the fall, but then take the next semester off, do you think this is bad? What about if I just took college courses at a community college next semester? All of mine say that you just need 15 credits to be a transfer student (which I have).

Eek, if you haven't already been admitted, I think it's a risky move. Call the admissions office at your preferred school and ask if it will jeopardize your chances if you check out early. Also, when does your next semester start? It seems that nearly every school has started their semester by now except schools with "January terms" like Oberlin.

it's not a bad thing if you make it that way. Write a letter with your application explaining why you did so. If you just say "the other college was hard" or "I just didn't like it at all" then that would be bad. But if you have a legitimate reason such as a sick family member, or you just could not stand that college anymore and were afraid of failing/going nuts, then i think they'll see that.
However, don't just take it off. I would definently carry 15 credit load at a CC, it looks much much better than just taking it off and falling way behind.
