Semi-Finalist List 2012!

The original application didn’t ask for test scores. So I’m not seeing the merit of all the “I got a 2400 and didn’t get SF status, this program sucks” posts.

If you have test scores like that, I’m sure you’re getting/going to get a lot of scholarships from great schools. So, great for you…but that didn’t help or hurt you for coca cola because it simply wasn’t part of the app.

Accepted SCEA to Harvard, rejected Coca-cola scholarship… just found it in my spam email. Oh well, time to apply elsewhere! Good luck to those who are advancing :)

I had a question for those of you applying for the Coca-Cola scholars. Does the secondary school report and transcript, as well as letters of rec, need to be in a sealed envelop?

They should be sealed to indicate your academic honesty in not tampering with the info

Can you change the size of the font in the application? Or is it permanently stuck that small?

My son’s guidance counselor is sending the paperwork in for him.

Does it block you from typing more than a certain number of Characters?

I was fortunate enough to have been chosen as a Coca Cola Scholar last year. I did have a great GPA, but moderate test scores. Coca Cola looks at the entire package and it appears that extensive, dedicated volunteer/community service are highly valued in the selection process.

Good luck to each one of you! There were 71,000 applicants last year, so I fully understand why it took longer this year to narrow down the applications. 83,000 is a huge number to carefully evaluate!

for the volunteer activities portion on Form B for activites prior to 2011 are we not alloweded to repeat any of the 2011 service activites? I have been involved in most of my projects all four years, and don’t want my hours from 2008-2010 not to be included in the application :/

Include it both times and just separate the hours as such. They just don’t want people repeating. You aren’t repeating, you’re showing consistency.

I really urge everyone to email them.

Took them 3 weeks to reply when I emailed them…

I completely agree with Steeplechic. I was a Coca-Cola Scholar from Mississippi a few years ago and now work in student affairs at a public university. I had good (not amazing)test scores and graduated in the top 5% of my class, but I feel like my dedication to leadership roles in school and meaningful community service probably pushed me to the finals. Many times, scholarship programs like this are looking for true leaders who will go on to impact their communities in a meaningful way. While high test scores and GPAs are excellent, this scholarship is looking for students who truly want to make a difference. Believe it or not, humility and sincerity can come through in an application just as arrogance can.

While I understand the confusion and disappointment, it has been sad to see people (both adults and students) “make light” of others acceptance when they were not selected.

Congratulations to the 2012 Semifinalists! Good luck as you move forward in the process and welcome to the Coca-Cola family for those of you who make Finalist!

has anyone heard back from sending in their semi-finalist application??

I haven’t heard anything back. But we’ll hear back soon! Notifications are sent out Feb 10th!

I think out of all the scholarships I’ve applied for, the semifinalist stage for Coca Cola is probably the quickest for letting you know. It’s less than four weeks of waiting which is an amazing turn-around rate.

oh okay! i thought they said we would hear back BY Feb. 10th

No, it just says that they’ll start sending responses by Feb. 10th. They don’t say if they will be mailed by postal or emailed so I’m curious to see. I think last year they emailed them out but I’m not really sure.

just read on coca cola twitter that semifinalist results will be out towards the end of February!! In fact, they just had their first full day with the scholarship committee today :(

:(

I was really looking forward to hearing back next week/two weeks…

February just started. I mean, I’m still thankful for what they do - don’t get me wrong - but it definitely would be nice to know. I guess if there’s anything good about it is that for some scholarships you have to list if you already got other scholarships and sometimes that decreases your chances. So at least if I hypothetically got Coca Cola then I don’t have to put that I got $10,000 already in scholarship money down on applications and stuff. Maybe that sounds bad…but yeah…

END of Febuary?! :frowning: dangg…
And they said on twitter they are going to E-Mail AND Postal Mail.

I didn’t get two e-mails or anything last time, but i know they messed up a lot of peoples emails last time, hopefully that doesn’t happen this time!

Do you guys know how I would reach a representative on phone? I just wanna know if my application had anything missing… I know the 1800 phone number but what numbers do i press after the automated bot? I waited for a representative weeks ago but after an hour of waiting through infomercials i hung up. Should I have waited longer? How long did it take you guys to reach one?
