Hello,

I'm in another tricky situation. I found out from admissions that I've been accepted into a conservatory--no studio assignment yet.

In my application, I didn't know who to put down, so I didn't list anyone in my teacher preference form. I know I can change that but I'm not sure who I should change that to.

How do I go about it now? I only took one lesson when I auditioned and I wasn't overly inspired... on the other hand, that teacher probably isn't a terrible choice at all. Should I contact other teachers I might be interested in and arrange for lessons now and tell admissions to put my teacher assignment on hold? I'm worried that time is of the essence and once I get into a studio it will be hard to change.

I found this thread:

Any other advice or experiences?

Thank you.

There must have been at least one teacher who wanted to teach you, you don’t get admitted without that (you could be on a technical level to get admitted, but if no teacher wants to teach you, you don’t get in).

Admissions should know a list of teachers who indicated an interest to teach you from the audition, if the acceptance form didn’t say who was on the list, I would contact them and ask them if they can tell you who indicated an interest on the form. There is also a potential to meet with teachers who may not have been at the audition (at big music schools, audition panels generally don’t include all teachers IME) who might be willing to teach you after having a sample lesson.

I encourage you to call the admissions department and ask them the next steps, if they didn’t indicate anything in your acceptance, about what the next steps are and about how to go about getting a teacher, they are there to help you, believe me:). They can answer your questions better then any of us can, I guarantee that:)
