Semifinalist to Finalist

I did call them and yes they were very nice and helpful.

They did receive the application-each one is reviewed by hand in the next few weeks. If they have any questions they contact the school directly.

The also received the SAT scores. They told me the qualifying score needed was a 1960-which is the three parts but doesn’t include the essay portion. I asked how I would calculate it and she told me to go to the sub-score on writing and add a zero to the multiple choice number and add the Math and CR together and if that was 1960 or above it was fine-but she told me on the phone that the score he sent was fine so I didn’t have to go figure it out myself.

Well at least I don’t have to wonder if it got lost in the mail. :)

Pepper (or others) – where do you find the subscore on the writing section of the SAT? If you just add a zero to the # of MC questions, the highest you can get would be a 490…that doesn’t make sense to me…how do you convert raw score (# of questions right) to subscore?

I don’t know since when she told me he was OK I forgot the details. If I can recall it I will post it.

mommafrog…what is your child’s highest SAT sitting breakdown?

Mommafrog - if you look at your childs SAT scores - online or the mailed report, the writing section will have 3 numbers the actual score (200-800), the essay score (2-12) and the multiple choice score (80 or less). I am guessing you just add a zero to the multiple choice score.

@mommafrog, if you go to the “MY SAT: MY SCORE REPORT” page, and click on the “Writing” tab, that page will show your score and then your MC and Essay components separately. Mine says 80 for MC and 8 for the essay. I suppose that means they will score it as an 800.

Found it! Thanks!

Got back my SAT results and I’m pretty disappointed… I got a 1980 which is like a 30 on the ACT (got a 33 on ACT). I guess I’m better with the ACT. But I digress.
My question now is will a 1980 be enough to push me through to finalist if I sent my application off on time, have a 4.0, and no disciplinary issues whatsoever. A lot of people have said 2000 is the usual cut off line but 1950 isn’t unheard of. So what are my odds? Right now I’m thinking fairly decent from what everyone has said about it being pretty easy to go through. Like 80 20??

What is your SAT breakdown?

What are the subscores of your writing section?

Nerf - look up a couple of posts, and is says 1960 will be the cutoff, but not quite. Instead of the writing score, they use the multiple choice score * 10.

I would call the NM people and ask them just to be sure.

Critical Reading 630

Math 730

Writing 620
(multiple choice - 63)
(essay 8 of 12 - haha I didn’t finish :P)

So from what I read above that is 630 + 730 + 630 = 1990? = NMF??? :)

If what the poster above says is indeed true, then yes you would be in. I would call the NM people just in case, if you have the option of retaking (I forget the deadline for NM…)

Deadline is Dec.

Your score should be fine…cut-off is 1960 (adjusted)

Nerfrehbay…did you send your scores to NMCorp (#0085)??

Already sent them. Thanks for the help everyone.
