Seminar travel questions

i got the e-mail saying im gauranteed a spot in the seminar’s b session woo!
so im looking at airline tickets etc. But I’m a bit confused about departure time. this is what the email says: Transportation will be provided for the Colorado Springs Airport on Friday. We will ensure that you are to the airport at least two hours before your departure time. Please attempt to schedule your departure by 12:00 PM. Thursday night departure is not permitted. The official program does not end until approximately 10:00 pm.

so the program does not end until 10, and they get you to the airport 2 hours before the flight. so i should schedule it for 12 am?

can anyone who’s been to the seminar before tell what they did?

When did you get your email? My son has been looking everyday since he applied January 3rd.

What they mean is that there is a dance there until 10 PM Thursday night. You can't leave then. Everyone stays the night in the dorms until Friday morning. They will get you to the airport in time, in fact, they will get you there with loads of time to kill. My roomate had a 7 am flight and he had to get onto the bus leaving the academy at 4 am :)

Yeah, I got an e-mail today too, but due to my high schools graduation week, I will be unable to attend:( They switched our g. date after I applied, so I kinda got screwed. But I'm going to SLS @ West Point, and hopefully @ USNA too.

You can change from session a to b, or b to a. My son's friend changed last year because of boy state. They ended up in the same flight and element. They are co-capts of the lacrosse team, it was really funny.

Just call and ask, they are happy to do so. But don't wait, if they run out of room there is nothing that cab be done.

My son received the email today about his early acceptance to SS. He'll be in group B (17-22 Jun). His older brother is a doolie this year, class of '10.

A question for upperclassmen:
Would you recommend my older son hosting his younger brother for SS (is it even allowed?). I, personally, think the younger should room with someone else.

Any thoughts?

Your son will be rooming with other 1 or 2 summer seminar attendees not a Cadet. He may get to see his brother depending on what his brother is doing that week, but unless the brother is assigned to be a squad leader (I don't think the use 3 digs) probably will be with someone else. He might get to go by his squadron.

I also just got my acceptance email today for the seminar! Does anyone have anything to say about last years seminar if you went?

Thank you for the clarification. I don't know why I thought there might be a possibility of the boys rooming together. jm

Yes, I have lots to say! :) It's tons of fun! You're going to love the Academy!

As far as flights go, I wouldn't schedule your flight too early on Friday, unless you want to get up super early, miss breakfast, and not get to say bye to all of your SS friends and cadre.

Yeah, the first busses leave the Academy around 4 AM on Friday morning. I'd recommend a later flight so you can sleep in a little, grab breakfast, etc. That being said, I didn't have to leave until around 9 AM last year, but was up around 0330 anyway. The three or four people in my element who were on the first bus out of there decided to wake us all up to say goodbye. :)

Thank you afa81, I will be contacting them soon.

It was a blast! When I went I didn;t get any of the classes I signed up for, so don't be suprised if you signed up for aircraft design and get english...I think I got maybe 2-3 of the 14 or so classes. Oh well, it was still a ton of fun and I learned a lot, you will too.

: / . no email. Not really a suprise though. Everything seemed fine except my test scores. Hoped my 3.5 would maybe help it ( I know it isn't GREAT but I wouldn't say it is bad) but guess it's just to competitive :(.
