My school requires a freshman seminar...Should i just assume that if i end up transferring they wont take the credit because they arent quite the same material as real classes? or should i try to take something thats like general so maybe they will have credit at the other institution?

it's probably on a school-by-school basis, and too hard to predict here. i'm transferring this fall, and i haven't found out yet which of my credits (including my first-year seminar) will transfer...

It depends on the seminar, its catalog description as to content, and the school. My S took a Physics seminar at Bates and it was accepted for transfer credit at several schools. Many schools have First Year Seminars and may have a similar one and transfer the credit, or may transfer the credit as an Independent Study.

If I were you, I'd take the seminar that appeals (as long as it's not Basketweaving ;) ). If you later transfer and those 3 credits don't make it, it's not that great a loss. Just my opinion.

One thing we learned after the fact - some schools don't accept Pass/Fail courses for transfer credit; some do if you can document that you would have had at least a "C" letter grade. S was able to do that (prof had reported the actual grade to the registrar and registrar sent a letter with official seal saying so).

great thanks :)
