Seminars?

If I only have room for one seminar would you guys suggest taking a smaller seminar (a freshman sophomore seminar) over taking a larger seminar (public health 116)? Do you gain a lot more from taking one of the smaller seminars?

as a freshman, dont’ take my advice word for word, but I was in a similar situation, and I chose the larger seminar only because it was required for my major. but otherwise, I would have definitely chosen the smaller seminar, also depending on the subject, are much harder to get, but it really matters on your interests and how much you plan to get out of it (like if you will foster your relationship with your professor in a small seminar because you are very much interested in it, and it will lead to something else (research), etc

Depends on if the seminar is something in you major/prospective major. I took a small freshman/sophomore seminar freshman year with a professor I’ll be taking a class with this semester, so the smaller setting was helpful in introducing me to my major’s department.

I’d recommend taking the F/S seminar if it’s something in your major/future interest. PH116 is open to both upper and lower-div students, but F/S seminars aren’t, and finding a F/S seminar you like and can work into your schedule might not be something you can do every semester.

I took PH116 and enjoyed the range of topics/presenters. It fulfills your a philosophy breadth, has really easy tests, and is a nice way to relax at the end of the day. Though it’s one of those courses you have to add during phase 1, it’s offered every semester, so you can depend on it being available for your future course schedule.
