I applied ED and just received my 1st quarter grades -- four A's and two B+ -- which increases my overall GPA half a point.

Should I send it to Penn? Email to my regional adcom letting her know?

no, they don’t consider quarter grades, let alone mid-term grades. The weight placed on them is not that high; also, the 2 B+ might not look attractive to Penn, if you’re gonna send them something that’s not required, atleast make sure its oustanding enough that you stand out. Btw, what is your GPA (if you don’t mind me being nosy…) lol. Hope it helps.

thanks pennhopeful. GPA is a 4.0 …

time to just relax and que sera sera right?

What scale is your GPA on? How could 2 B+s increase your 4.0 GPA?

Is that weighted? Because unless you go to a really tough school and your rank is high, I assume that if this is one of your best semesters and you are getting two Bs, Penn might not be a huge fan of your GPA.

Best of luck regardless!

Don’t forget that usually at most high schools, only semester grades are valid. Example: If your quarter grades are all As, 2 B+s, and you get at the end of the semester, all As, that’s ALL that is VALID. The B+s never were valid/won’t appear on transcript. So I may wait to submit Semester One grades if you get deferred.

thanks hardworking. good point. Actually they only put full year grades on the transcript here, so my OP was totally pointless. lol.

Just the same, I think there is a bit of an obsession on these threads regarding the horror of the occasional B. The transcripts of MOST of the accepted students at the top schools (including the ivies) have a few B’s on them. Certainly B’s inside semesters as hardworking pointed out. If the average GPA of accepted students from my school to Penn is 3.95 then obviously Penn (like every other school) is okay with a few Bs.

All the adcoms say they want to see 2 things: challenging courses and more A’s than B’s. If you have that then that’s all you can have (good test scores too of course).

Everything else is pure theory.
