That was an excellent post by Ben which crystalized the entire issue, something I wasn't able to do through a lack of both articulate self-expression and a more advanced perspective.

And yes, we've definitely met, ha ha.

Pay no attention to the dangerous nonsense of GracieLegend and Ben Golub.

If you qualify for USAMO, not only will you get into the college of your choice, but you will also be awaited by 77 young maidens at your bedside.

Do you know of any sources with practice tests for the AIME?

Thanks

nice... thank you...

Several mock AIMEs are posted at www.artofproblemsolving.com

Many of these have compiled here:

This has questions, then answers and then a discussion of each problem/solution(s). 55 pages.

Gracie, you have no idea what you're talking about, you think you're intellectual and elite when it is quite obvious that you are a pompous fruitcake. Please stop posting to save yourself from further ridicule. You're probably a troll anyway...I can't imagine you being a real person. You're saying that AMC/AIME/USAMO are nothing compared to college problems, yet you forget that both are TOTALLY different things. The tests I mentioned can be usually solved by precalulus methods, thus the math isnt really hard, it is really a test of REASONING. Just be quiet and stop pretending you're an expert.

1337hax0r, you're not very convincing when you troll yourself.

Anyway, here's a question. My school doesn't offer the AMC; I took it at a nearby school. Where do I take the AIME? Same place? Will they offer it? What is signup procedure, and such? Or will you get something in the mail if you qualify.

zoogies- Yes, you should take it at a nearby school provided they offer it. At any rate, e-mail the UNL people that handle this. I had a similar problem myself once, and found the UNL AMC people very helpful in solving my dilemna.

Detritus, are you being sarcastic? I can't tell...

Tons of USAMO qualifiers are denied admission to elite colleges all the time.

Okay, so I'm hearing different opinions. Do you think it's worth it to send in a 107? Is so, how should I do it? By Email? By mail? To whom?

Did you have any AMC score beforehand? If you already have a AIME qualifying score on the application then I would say don't send it. If you haven't qualified for the AIME before, then I don't know what to say.

Also, people might tell you to just say "AIME qualifier" but keep in mind that doing so on an update may be bad since it'll be egregious and the adcom may just be like "ok....and where's the score?"

It'll be egregious? How?

I think that was supposed to be extraneous, or maybe superfluous, but not egregious. Hard to keep those SAT words straight sometimes ;)

No, I mean egregious. If you put it on an awards list, it'll be like "Siemens Westinghouse Semifinalist, Volunteer award, AIME qualifier, etc. etc," so it won't look like you're covering up for a barely qualifying score. But if you send them a letter that says "I qualified for the AIME!!" then it'll stick out that you're covering up for a barely qualifying score.

lol I wasn't just trying to use a SAT word. It was the mot juste (hahahah ;)).

this was my first time i qualified for the AIME, so i just sent an update to admissions@mit.edu, along with a couple other stuff.

I still don't think that egregious is what you mean. Conspicuous, maybe?

isn't that what egregious means? Conspicuously bad?

That's what I thought lol...

Wow, thanks! The UNL people were amazing in their reply.

excalibur/zogoto are right ;)
