Send College Transcripts to Common App Schools?

For students who took college classes that are not on their HS transcript, should they have an official transcript sent from each college (our kiddo has two) directly to each common app school they are applying to?

I'm a little concerned that they will not get matched up correctly, and if they are even needed.

Surprisingly, I could not find a clear answer on the Common App FAQ. Any clarifications appreciated!

I discussed this with the guidance counselor at our kids’ school after D2 got some college credits the summer after freshman year. She asked that we have official transcripts sent to the kids’ school (high school), and said the counseling office would include those as well when they send transcripts to college. The high school did NOT accept the credits or put them on the HS transcript, but offered to handle the paperwork. I reminded the GC this fall that those extra transcripts needed to be sent along with the HS ones, and I believe they did it.

Now… not all high schools probably will do that. Ours is a small independent private school. Others can probably chime in about sending official transcripts directly to colleges (sounds like a headache to me if you have a lot of apps!) if they have done it.

I certainly assumed they would be needed. Her grades were good, so we wanted to make sure they saw those. Although in another discussion out here we talked about whether they would factor those classes into her GPA. The concensus among experienced parents was that they would not. Too bad…

Thanks intparent - I think we’ll suggest having college transcripts sent directly from the college to all Common App schools unless we get other information indicating they are not needed. Hopefully the colleges will be able to match things up!

On a related note, just to confirm, am I correct that there is no need to send official AP score reports until accepted (scores are listed/reported on the Common App)?

My daughter took a college course this past summer and we had the college send the transcript directly to 8 colleges that she has applied to. I think this is a positive advantage particularly if the student got a good grade in the course. I believe AP scores are only sent to the college that the student will be attending.
