Here's the skinny of it for U Michigan Ann-Arbor and UC-Berkeley:

Asian female (T_T)/Perm Resident/middle income/Wisconsin (OOS=disadvantage?);
4.62 W/4.00 UW GPA, ranked 1/482 - bad public hs (~2000), very involved but unfocused ECs;
AP classes: Eng Lang (5), World History (4), Gov (4), Physics B (3), Bio (2), Chem, Calculus AB, Eng Lit, Psych, Microecon, and Stats;
SAT IIs: 740 Literature, 730 Biology E (and 640 Math I that I don't think I should send);
ACTs: 28 (2/11) - didn't send & not going to report
31 (4/11): 35 E/30 M/33 R/27 S/11 W (34 E+W) - didn't send, won't be free
30 (2/12): 34 E/26!! M/34 R/27 S/10 W (33 E+W) - sent for free

I know... crappy test scores for an Asian.. lol. I'm a really slow test taker. I've never finished the math and science sections on time. I always have at least 10-20 problems left over on each.

But man, doing worse on a THIRD retake... totally weak. I didn't prep at all, which was dumb. Basically, would it be worth sending in the 31 (with its overall better subscores) to be safe, or can I get away with just sending in the 30? I mean, is 30 vs. 31 going to make that much of a difference? Not to mention this last retake was done well into senior year. Does it look bad if they only see a score from February of senior year? Maybe I should send in the 28 instead to show improvement! lol >_>

I just don't want to have to spend the money on something that might do nothing (my poor parents have to dish out so much money because of me ;_; so I want to relieve as much financial pressure as I can). I also kind of don't want the adcom to see that I did worse this time around (unless they see this thread.. then I'm screwed lol).

I'm taking a gap year and applying next year, which is why I think it should have been OK to take the ACT again senior year. I'm also applying to many other colleges (10+), which is why mitigating financial costs would be great (app fees and score reports are so expensive!! T_T).

So what do you guys think? Should I send in the 31? Or do you think my chances of being admitted would be OK with a 30? haha first world problems! smh..
