If my SAT is better than my ACT, but my ACT essay score is better than my SAT essay score, should I send my ACT to schools so they can view the better essay? Schools like UDel say they consider the essay component.

If it is a big difference then I would say send it since they do consider the essay. May as well show your highest scores in each area. If it is a one point difference, and your SATs are higher across all subsections than ACT, then maybe that wouldn’t be worth sending as a 1 point difference on the essay isn’t much difference.

If the SAT and ACT score differences aren’t that large, you should be fine sending the ACT instead of the SAT. Or you could send both (but that costs more $$$).

@lr4550 it’s an 8 vs. 10 right now.

@meow0628 well my ACT is 27, Sat is 1270/1930.

Based on SAT/ACT conversions, your SAT score would be about a 28. Honestly I’d probably send in my SAT scores if I were you. The essay may be a bit lower, but the combined/overall score is a tiny bit higher and that is what matters more than the essay score difference.

Can you look up the Common Data Set for the schools to which you are applying (like Univ Del)? Admissions stats appear in section C. This will tell you mid 50% of scores in both SAT and ACT. It might help you decide which score to submit or if it is okay to submit both scores. At the end of the day, the essay score is probably the least important so an 8 on the SAT is not a problem if your SAT turns out to be a higher score than your ACT overall.

@lr4550 That is a good point, I did look at the common data set. My sat is almost at the 75th, act at the 25th. The problem is that sometimes colleg websites (.edus) sometimes seem to disagree with data sets.

Yes then for sure go with the SAT as I think an 8 is perfectly acceptable for your essay and it will save you the ACT score report fee. Good luck!!
