Hey guys, i'll be applying for colleges this fall as i am currently a rising senior. i've finished my standardized testing and i've scored well on both act and sat.

SAT: 2360; 780 CR, 790 M, 800 W
ACT: 35; 36 English, 34 math, 34 reading, 34 science

I am for sure going to send in my sat scores but i took the act without writing so i'm not sure whether i should send in my act score because i took it without writing. Should i retake it with writing in september and send in those scores (i'm fairly sure i can get a 35 if not 36)? Or should i just send in the act score w/o writing even though the colleges specify that they want it with writing? Like, will it matter? Because I'm sending in my sat scores too? Please let me know what you think!

Personally I would send just the SAT. That is a great score and fufills the application requirement.

What are the testing requirements for the schools you’re applying to? You don’t say anything about Subject tests, have you taken any?

Many selective colleges require either SAT + 2 Subject tests OR ACT w/writing.

Sending just the SAT + ACT w/o writing would not satisfy the requirements for these schools.

entomom, i’ve taken 2 subject tests. i got a 780 on Chemistry and an 800 on Math Level 2. I’m sending in both of those scores to the colleges that require subject tests.

So right now, i am for sure sending in my SAT score, and my Chemistry and Math subject test scores. I just have absolutely no idea what to do for ACT…

Because the score that I got is a decent score, but considering how i didn’t take writing, is there a point in sending it in? What I’m not sure about is whether it will even be considered…

I’d send in the ACT also. If they don’t consider it, so be it; you have an awesome SAT score. However, I bet they will look at it (and you have already fulfilled their requirements since you are sending the SAT). The fact that you can excel on 2 different tests, including the fact that you can excel in Science, will impress them all the more.

35 ACT = ca. 1560/2340, you have a 1570/2360, and since the ACT is w/o writing, I’d save the money and just sent the SAT + Subject tests.

If you really want to send your current ACT, that’s OK too, it supports your SAT score, I just don’t think it’s necessary. However, I would definitely argue against sitting the ACT w/writing. By just about any measure you’ve overcome the testing threshold for any school in the country, your admissions decisions will not be enhanced by additional testing.

thanks everyone! i’ve decided to not retake the ACT. i’ll be sending in the current one that i have along with my SAT and subject tests :D
