Hello, I have a bit of a strange problem. I want to go to graduate school, and my GPA at my current institution is very good, 3.9, but I am a transfer student and failed a few classes at my old university which brings my overall gpa down to around 3.3.
What would happen if I applied to grad school and just didnt send in my other records? Maybe I could explain I was suffering with depression then or something? Which is the truth btw.
The two universities I want to apply to are Concordia and McGill in Montreal, and I would be applying as a graduate student. Concordia is not selective so I am not too worried even with a 3.3 but McGill is a lot more competitive and I would feel better with them seeing a 3.9 rather than a 3.3!
Thoughts?
I only have 12 transfer credits from my other school and 85 earned at my current school but the failed classes really drag me down!
I am pretty sure that you need to send in your transcripts from every college and every university that you have ever attended. I would however check this with the admissions staff at both Concordia and McGill.
What I have heard with regard to Canadian universities is that your most recent work is by far the most important. They will see all of your grades. However, that does not mean that they will care about all of your grades. Your most recent grades, and probably the most recent two years, will be more important.
As such I feel that it is worthwhile for you to continue with your applications to both McGill and Concordia. Good luck with this.
