Send Scores or not?

I haven't sent any of my standardized test scores over the years to any colleges. I opted out of sending because I'm a junior and I don't know where I'm going to apply to yet anyway. Also, I want to review the scores myself at home before shipping off somewhere (in case I get a low score or something).
I feel like I SHOULD be sending them out somewhere just because it's an option on the test form.
Are you supposed to indicate a college to send your scores to, or can you just not indicate colleges and send them out later? Would it cost extra to do the latter? Is it different depending on whether it's the ACT or the SAT?

When you do apply schools will see all your sat scores anyway, act is your choice to send or not.

Yes, you can not fill out any colleges; then no one will get your scores until you specifically designate them. That's the same for SAT or ACT.

For the SAT, some kids do use the 4 free score reports. My d didn't. She waited until she took her final SAT II, then listed 4 free and paid for the rest. Some will take the SAT I first, send the SAT I to schools that don't require SAT II, and will then send the SAT II to those schools that require them (they'll get the SAT I as well.) You can do that either with the 4 free or pay later to send the scores.

For the ACT, you can choose which score to send.

The downside to not using the designation is that you lose the 4 free reports. That's $38. We decided that it was worth paying the $38 and sending the scores when my d was comfortable doing so.
