I’m applying to CAS as an undecided social sciences major. Got a 700 on Math Level 2 and 680 on Literature. Obviously these are low scores, but I know that Penn recommends two subject tests. On the SAT I got a 1550 (800 M 750 RW) and a 32 on the ACT (35 E 32 R 34 S 27 M) (that math tho…yikes). I’m pretty good at math, as I have an 800, a 5 on AP Calc, and good grades in math, but that ACT math already does enough damage so I think sending a subpar ML2 score would hurt me. And reading was my lowest subscore on the SAT (36/40) so sending the 680 wouldn’t help.
I wouldn’t send the ACT when you already have a 1550 on the SAT. Just send the 1550, 700, and 680.
@aoeuidhtns I sent that ACT score as one of my free score sends back in February when I took it, because I thought Penn didn’t have score choice, so it’s on my application already.
So what should I do? Would sending only an ACT and SAT be sufficient? Or would it hurt me because two subject tests are recommended?
I’m no admissions consultant, but I would guess that sending no scores will look worse than sending the 700 & 680, unless your application shows that you’re coming from a low-income household.
Thanks, I’ll send both, since I’m not low income so they’ll expect me to have taken them
Let us know how it works out.
I disagree, don’t send those subject test scores. That 680 might hurt you. I wouldn’t risk it. If you don’t send, then for all they know, you didn’t even take it and could have aced them both. What they don’t know can’t hurt you.
Too late, sent both subject tests to Penn last night, also submitted second ACT with higher math so superscored it’s a 33. Hopefully that 680 doesn’t hurt me that much
My subject test scores weren’t too high either, but I still sent them. If anything, it shows that you care about the university enough to take them.
@tchaiktea That was my reasoning too. Even though they’re still low hopefully the admissions officers will know I actually tried and listened to what they recommended
@CU123 and everyone else who responded on this thread, I have been accepted to the University of Pennsylvania Class of 2022!!! Super excited! So yes, you can get into Penn with low Subject Test scores!
hey congrats!! I remember keeeping up on this thread because I also had a low subject test score (650) but ended up submitting it to Penn, like you (along with Harvard and Yale!). I was eventually accepted to all three, so that’s another example that low subject test scores won’t hurt your application too much.
