Send Update Letters to Stanford, Harvard, MIT?

I applied RD to Stanford, Harvard, and MIT. I’ve been reading online that these schools discourage sending in emails to the admissions committees with extraneous material due to the vast quantity of applications they receive.

However, since January I’ve qualified for the USA Physics Olympiad Semifinals (scores just came out) and made USA Computing Olympiad Gold.

Are these considered significant enough achievements to email the admissions committees for?

Also, with MIT’s February update form I was able to notify them about my USACO Gold achievement, should I send in another email with my Physics Olympiad Semifinalist credentials?

I would definitely send in those updates. Congratulations!

@boulders, do you still think that I should send the updates in to MIT?

I think it can’t hurt. No college is going to take you out of an accepted pile with those updates, and it’s possible you might even move from a waitlist pile to an accepted pile. Those are both substantial enough, in my opinion. I would make the subject header your name, important update.

Definitely update your colleges- these are prestigious awards (especially USACO gold).

@rshortsma I would update MIT too.
