For ED applicants, are we supposed to send 1st quarter grades on our own? or does Cornell request our grades?

I'm not sure about Cornell's policy for 1st quarter senior grades, can someone please explain to me? :/

don’t send them unless they ask, I’m not sending mine. people will probably disagree with me on this but I don’t think it’s necessary.

If you did well, your GC should send first quarter grades in, especially if you are on an up swing. My nephew didn’t take any APs until senior year because he transferred when he was in high school and couldn’t get on the track. He did very well on his AP courses senior year, so his GC shared his first quarter grades with Cornell to demonstrate his ability to do higher level courses. He was admitted ED.

It would seem to me that sending in materials that were not requested (quarterly grades) could be a nuisance to adcomms when they have thousands of applications to sort through.

No true. Most responsible GCs would send in the first quarter grades (interim grades) if they think additional information would help. Applicants should also send in special awards/recognitions to adcoms if applicable. This applies to both ED and RD.

^Definitely update the adcoms on additional awards. It shows that you’re truly serious about attending. I just won recognition from a writing competition and the first thing I did was email Cornell to let them know.

^ I think they know you’re serious about attending when you apply ED. But congrats foreverfish, that probably wouldn’t hurt!

You’re definitely right, Renomamma. Maintaining communication with the admissions office throughout the application period is quite important, I’d say.

And thank you very much. :)
