Hi everyone,

I took the January 2013 SAT yesterday and am planning on sending my scores to the six universities I applied to. All of the six places have indicated on their websites that they accept January scores, but I'm a little worried that they won't get the scores on time. Is the earliest I can send my scores the day the results come out, which is the 14th of February? Or is there another way I can make sure my colleges get my scores asap?

Also, was I supposed to indicate on my registration form that I want my scores sent as soon as they're out? I think I've heard about some people doing stuff like this before...

Thanks!
P.S. I've already sent in my superscored scores from previous sittings.

When you register to take the SAT, you get four free score report which you can have sent to the colleges of your choice. This process takes place before you take the SAT. If you want to send more than four, you will need to pay for any additional score report.

If you designate which colleges or universities you want your free score reports to be sent to before you take the SAT, those scores will be sent to those schools as soon as the scores are available. That is the fastest way to have your scores sent the schools.

However, you can send scores after you receive your SAT results. If you choose this method, your scores may be delayed by one week due to processing relative to having them sent through the registration method. To mitigate this delay, you can choose the two day rush service through the College Board’s website to have the scores sent sooner. The College Board recommends that you check with the school to see what their admission cycle is because you may not need the rush service. It may be the case they will be unable to review your scores and applications until they begin the next cycle in the application season, so rising the scores may not help.

Generally speaking, you should be fine if the school mentions that you can submit January SAT scores. Admissions counselors know how long it generally takes to process SAT scores.

Thanks for your reply! Does signing up for the four free score reports during the registration allow Collegeboard to send the scores sooner? Because I did not do this, and am now very concerned that my colleges will not receive the scores on time. And most of my colleges don’t accept Rush Reporting.

Yes, CollegeBoard sends the scores as soon as they are available. If you don’t sign up for the four free score reports, then there will be a delay in reporting and you will need to pay to have them sent. If the colleges you want to send your scores to don’t accept rush reporting, then I would contact the admission offices of each school first thing tomorrow morning and explain the situation. Again, if they stated they would accept January SAT scores, then you’re most likely not going to have a problem.
