Sending a Letter after Applying?

I was thinking about sending a letter to my top schools giving them an update of my senior year, and demonstrating my interest (two of the three track dem. interest). I also wanted to note a few very personal family circumstances in the letter. Part of me thinks that this would add a personal touch to my application. Another part says that it looks desperate/obnoxious. What do you guys think?

Personally, I wouldn’t send a letter unless something drastic had changed since I submitted my app - like an award, change in family circumstance, etc. I doubt they count letters sent as part of “demonstrated interest”…

Well, I wanted to update them on my senior year accomplishments and just add a personal touch to my application…

I think it would look desperate/obnoxious.

Your school will send a midyear report with your grades anyway- if they’re kept up, thats all that should matter. Schools have so much paperwork to go through (still!) that sending a letter would be annoying. Like the other user said, if nothing drastic has happened, they don’t really want to know.
