Sending a Research Abstract as a supplement

Hi, I’m currently applying thinking about sending an abstract from my IB extended Essay, a 4000 word independent research paper that I chose to do on Mathematics, specifically the topic calculus and how it could be applied to the Fibonacci sequence to predict plant phyllotaxis (leaf arrangements). I will be applying as a Civil Engineering major to Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Carnegie Mellon, Tulane, and UMichigan.

I was wondering a few things

Can sending a research abstract have a negative impact on your application?
Would my abstract likely help my chances in any way?
Would it be too late to send the supplement anyway?

Thanks for the help.

Don’t take my word on it, but I think EE is supposed to be schoolwork, and is generally not at the same level as actual scientific research. Unless it actually started as a research with a scientist-mentor.

@yucca10 That’s a good point. And I did have a teacher as a “mentor” during the process, but that’s definitely not the same lol. Do you think it would hurt if I sent it though?

I really have no idea but to me that may come across as a bit desperate.

Easy: don’t send it.

Extended essays are common and every IB student has to do it. Don’t send it.
