Sending ACT score to MIT Dilemma

I only took ACT and SAT each once. My ACT has 25 in reading (English is my second language), but 36 in math. I took SAT recently, and got 760 in reading, 770 in writing, but only 780 in math. I will send my SAT score to MIT for sure, but how about ACT? A 25 in reading might hurt me, but a 36 in math will definitely help? How does MIT look at these scores?

Thanks in advance!

I think your SAT score is good enough. MIT does not differentiate (at least consciously) between 780 and 800. A difference 20 points isn’t a big deal. On the other hand, 36 might be marginally better than 780 but the 25 may cast some doubt upon your SAT scores/reading ability so I don’t think it’s worth it to send your ACT score. Good luck!

As it happens, long-time College Confidential readers can say with authority that at MIT in particular, they will not care about the difference between a 780 and an 800 (or, one assumes, between a 780 and a 36). See this thread, especially post #13: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1193457-esse-quam-videri-how-do-college-applications.html?highlight=esse+quam+videri.

Send your SAT, and then find some thing else to worry about.

I agree that your SAT score is perfectly fine, and that you’re not likely to derive an additional benefit from sending the ACT score.

However, if you do send both, MIT will only use the best scores in your evaluation. The 25 in ACT Reading will not be used.

@All: Thank you for the advice!
