I am a junior in high school, and have my ACT scores from October. I am very happy with them (35 composite, 36 writing) and don’t plan on taking the test again. Are there advantages to sending score reports to colleges now, rather than with my applications in the fall/winter of my senior year (advantages such as being noticed, extra priority, application fees being waived, etc.)?
Also, are there any scholarships I can get for my score?
Thanks!
You shouldn’t send your scores until you apply I believe.
No benefit. If anything, the scores will be discarded.
Congratulations on your score! You can send scores now or later to schools you are interested in. My daughter had her scores sent to a few schools before applying and she usually received a notification from the school. They keep the scores on file. You can do a search on CC for automatic scholarships to see what schools will offer. Good luck!
@danamway My son is a junior. I sent his scores to Miami (two since they superscore) recently to see if it would put him on their radar. Three days later I got two automatically generated emails thanking him for his interest and telling him that they would be sending him invitations for various events. Prior to this he was not on their mailing list.
The ACT score report has your graduation date, so when they get it they know you aren’t planning to go this fall. It may not help everywhere, but it did exactly what we wanted it to do at Miami.
You can send your scores at any time. For schools that track demonstrated interest, there may be some benefit to sending scores early. Other schools will put you on their email lists but it really won’t matter one way or the other.
Sending in your scores will trigger the start of a file. If you apply your application will be matched up to your scores. If you don’t end up applying the school will just eventually delete your incomplete file.
Note that you can get on a school’s email list just by requesting information from their website.
