Sending ACT Scores?

Ok, I got my packet for the April ACT's and I need to fill them out sometime this week if I want to make it in on the deadline. This will be my first time taking them and I am kinda new at this whole college thing so sorry if this question sounds dumb.

On the ACT they ask you to list a few colleges you would like to send your scores to. Becasue this is the first time I am taking them and I don't really know what I am going to get, I don't want to send my scores to Dartmouth and be complelty embarassed if I do horrible...even though I know they only look at your highest score.

My question is...can you take the ACT's and not put Dartmouth as a school to send you grades to but then later after you get your scores and if you like them...can you send them in later (even for a extra fee?) Or do they kinda just through out the scores and not keep them on record.

I hope I was at least somewhat clear...I am not sure if I even understand myself, so thanks to anyone in advance who replies.

Absolutely. ACTs have score choice, unlike the SATs, meaning you can take them three times if you want, and then ONLY send the score you think is best.

Good luck! ACTs are sooo much better than SATs anyway lol

So what do I do...not put Dartmouth on my list of schools and then when I am done and satisfied with a score how do I send jsut that score in? Do I have to contact the ACT company and tell them where to send it and will it cost extra?

yeah you can do it online i think

JaKay, yes you can do it online, and it is not a lot, but I think you may have to pay per school, so it does add up after awhile. My daughter took the SAT once, ACT twice, and 4 SATIIs over 2 separate test dates. She did not send either SAT/ACT immediately after the first sitting. She sent ACT scores after the second sitting (actually on in the summer, after she finalized her college list), choosing the set she wanted to send. When she took the SATIIs in May jr year, she knew what her SAT score was, knew she wasn't going to take it again, and knew some colleges she wanted to apply to, so she went ahead and sent SAT scores to those schools. She then sent SATs to the rest of her schools in the fall when she took the 4th SATII, then only paid extra to get that last SATII to one other school.

If you are applying to a state school, or a rolling admission school with a minimum ACT score that you know you will surpass, you may want to send even your first scores to that school. For example, let's say you want to go to OSU, and their minimum is 22, and your PLAN or practice test scores have consistently been 30 - you are probably OK sending scores blindly, just be sure to check for minimum scores for any scholarships you might be interested in, and don't forget to send any higher scores.

Thanks for the help. Dartmouth is the only school I am worried about sending my score to because I am sure that all the others will be in-state. If I end up not getting into Dartmouth, I will end up going somewhere more local where any idiot can get in.

I took a practice ACT and didn't do very well. I only got a 23 so that is kinda scary. I am not even sure if I am going to have a good enough score to ever send into Dartmouth.

What do you think the minimum you could get on the ACT and still get into Dartmouth is? As far as I know there isn't any limit but, for me, applying anything less than a 29 or 30 would seem embarassing.

I don't know....
