I apologize if this is in the wrong spot, but the question does deal with admissions.
The very first ACT I took only yielded a 28, but it’s the only ACT I’ve ever taken with writing (got an 8 on the old scale). More than a year later I’ve bumped it up to a 33, but obviously with no writing (never retook it). I’ll be a senior next year, and if I’m applying to rather top-tierish schools that don’t superscore, what do I do?
Can I send the 28 for the writing score but send the 33 as well as my “main considering test date?” Or will colleges only care about the 28 test date because it has a writing score?
If I could get a conclusive answer on this I would appreciate it.
If they don’t superscore, they may only consider your first test. Call the admissions office to check. If that’s the case, you may want to consider re-taking it with writing…
The university is Ohio State, if that helps. Now why is it that they’d only consider the test date with writing when there’s a better score right next to it?
When it comes to very competitive scholarships, can the ACT without writing be used for consideration? I thought the writing only mattered for admission.
^^ Call the admissions office. Last year my daughter was applying to LSU’s honors college. With that application she was also competing for a STAMPS scholarship. It was a requirement that she send ACT with writing. They did not superscore.
I called OSU for my son who had a 34 composite in June of 2016 with no writing and a 31 composite in April of 2016 with an anemic writing score. We have since requested a re score but it will be awhile.
I was told his writing score did not need to be on the 34 ACT which he did a happy dance about. Math and science are his loves. Writing is down on the list! Admissions was easily accessible and we didn’t want to wait for a nasty surprise later. They also told me they don’t consider the writing score for scholarships.
@love4monsters I am extremely pleased to hear this! Thanks so much for sharing; the last thing I want to do is waste more money on that rigged writing test. Congratulations to your son as well; I’ve only managed a 33 with all of the variables on my side.
