I paint and dance, so I wanted to send an art supplement.
As an hip hop/step dancer, do you think I should send in my dancing at all, since Barnard seems to be more classically oriented (in terms of dance)? The two other Barnard dance supplements I found were for contemporary and ballet. Do they want to see hip hop?
Also, does the dance part have to be one thoughtout choreography, or can it be 2 or 3 short choreos compiled into one video? We can only submit 4 “medias” and I want three to be photos of my paintings and the fourth a video of me dancing.
Thanks!
Barnard has quite a variety of dance styles available…both in class and in student-run ensembles. If you are good at what you do (and I am sure that you are), I think that a well-done video compilation of your choreography and dancing, as well as your art, would make your application that much more unique in pointing to your own strengths. In my humble opinion (and I am NOT an authority!), if you don’t send it, you will always wonder if you should have. If you do, you will know you have done all you could have to make your application stand out and to demonstrate your strengths. Again, just make sure the video is WELL DONE!!
