Sending an updated resume before SCEA decisions

My D has applied SCEA to Yale. After sending in her application at the end of October, she received a few awards in two of her ECs, and she just got her first trimester report card. The school is going to fax over an updated transcript on Monday. Should my D send in an updated resume listing the new awards? Considering the decisions are going to be announced in 9 days, would this new information be processed in time to make an impact? Do people typically send resume updates in the early rounds?

My son did not send an updated resume in the SCEA round, but when he received a national award very close to the decision date, the GC faxed Yale Admissions a letter describing the award. It certainly can’t hurt your D to let Yale know about her awards.

I think it’s a good idea to update the school if there is any additional information. Your daughter may just want to email the adcom to let them know if GC is not doing it.

It certainly can’t hurt! Kudos to your daughter, and good luck on her SCEA app

She has nothing to lose, everything to possibly gain by sending the update.

Thanks all, she will send the update.

Another question: The report card shows the first B of her life, in BC Calculus. The reasons for the B are: a) this is known to be the hardest class by far in her school taught at a level well above the AP exam, and b) she had a very busy extracurricular schedule with travel to multiple debate tournaments combined with rehearsals for the school musical up until the big final exam. Should she send in a brief explanation, or just not worry about it? She is a prospective Engish major so I don’t think this grade should matter much, but then this is a competitive school :)

I don’t think she should try bother to try to explain the B. If the school profile is included then Yale would know BC Cal is a hard course. As far as busy schedule, it’s no different than what other seniors are experiencing right now. She may appear to be whining for no good reason.
