This is a question that no one seems to have and answer to (that I can find at least). Over the last 3 years I have taken 8 APs and got 5 on all except AP world history and AP Biology (both on which I got a 4). My other tests were BC Calc, Physics C Mech and E&M, AP Lit and C, AP Micro, APUSH. My question is this - Are AP scores self reported? - is it possible for colleges NOT to see those two 4s, like a score choice kind of thing and instead see the other six on which I received a 5?
You self-report scores on the application. You can choose to report all, none, or some. That being said, there is no reason not to report a 4 IMO. Your scores are great. Congratulations!
If you don’t report a 4 and have the class listed on your transcript, they will probably assume you got a
1,2, or 3. A 4 is a really good score and it’s going to help you more than hurt you.
Absolutely report a 4. It is a great score. Any college will be happy with it.
Score Withholding
You can withhold one or more scores from the college specified on your registration answer sheet (the first answer sheet you filled out) or from any other college to which you want to send a score report. The score will be withheld from any future score reports sent to that particular college. A request to withhold a score does not permanently delete your score. You may later release the score to that college by sending AP Services a signed written request. There is no charge to release scores.
This is copied from the AP site. All of your scores are great! Be proud!
^ just realized this is probably from when you initially filled out your AP form with your selected colleges. The above posters are correct with the info they provided.
Where are people getting this idea that a 4 is a bad score, what is the world coming to? ok rhetorical question.
Report the 4, most colleges give credit for it, which means they respect it. If you don’t report it, as others have said, they’ll assume you got a (gasp!) 1 or 2.
@pkchamp89 Ok, but it says " from the college specified on your registration answer sheet" - I never specified a college when I took those tests - does that matter, or can it still be withheld even though I got the scores already?
You don’t send a AP score report during admissions.
You self report. Please report all these scores.
You only send a official report when you are admitted and are going to a school for sure, and only for credit if that college gives credit/advanced standing.
