Sending scores cost $15 per college, so is it worth it? If you self-report will colleges trust you or do you have to have official score reports?

Most people do not send official reports until have they have been accepted at a college.

Some people who have highly unusual records (lots of tests, lots of 5s) do choose to spend the money, hoping it will have a beneficial effect. Who knows whether or not it ever matters? Only the adcoms, and they aren't saying.

Colleges usually trust you as long as it is somewhat consistent with your other performances.

My school will send AP scores of your choice to the colleges that you apply.

Thanks for replying! How does your school send AP scores? Do they copy the score report they get?

they are on the back of transcript...or at least they are on mine

I'd send an official score report to the colleges you are most interested in, if you have a good AP record. Some colleges ask about AP scores on their application forms, and first of all you would self-report on such a form.
