Do colleges (top tier schools/ivys) have a common reply date for the regular deadline? say if you were ready to turn in an application now for the regular deadline could I expect to get a decision earlier than someone who sent it in last minute? or does it matter?

I don’t think you’ll get a quicker answer, no. But…my D started her common app long ago. Has hemmed and hawed and waited on test scores and just isn’t ready. She just got an e-mail from a school, to which she has obviously not applied. THey can SEE that she’s listed them on her common application. I hope they can’t see her RAMBLINGS…because her essays aren’t done! I’ve had NO input/knowledge in her application process…so I don’t know what data is in there yet. Doesn’t seem fair that they can see this, because she might decide not to even apply to some of her listed colleges. She’s still testing the waters.

Anyway…the e-mail said, in a nice way … “er, um…we see you’ve started a common app, and that you’ve listed us…are ya ever gonna get off yer bootie and SEND the darn thing?”

In other (better!) words, they REALLY want to start getting applications now, if possible. They’re about ready to read the last of the ED applications (if applicable), and no college wants to be swamped on January 2 (or thereabouts). They’re just ASKING. And I’m SURE one’s sending it in early versus later has no impact on them (“awwww…she was so nice to send it in early…let’s just go ahead and give her a nod”). I worry, conversely, that they’ll summarily dismiss any applicants they consider borderline…hoping/knowing they’ll get better applicants later. But, if they read it later, and they have found they might have to dig a tiny bit deeper in the talent pool this year, that might be a change for the better. ??

But…early answer? I don’t really think so. At least I don’t know of anyone who has had that happen. But I don’t have a lot of experience either.
